REALSOUL is a curriculum-based arts organization, founded on Ramaytush Ohlone land and the epicenter of radical change (San Francisco).
REALSOUL is a curriculum-based arts organization developing K-8 Ethnic Studies curriculum, arts education programs, and culturally responsive teaching resources. Founded on Ramaytush Ohlone land in San Francisco and fiscally sponsored by the Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center, we create interdisciplinary learning experiences that center the intersectional stories of marginalized communities.
We support educators by designing ready-to-use lesson plans, arts integration curriculum, and community-based learning opportunities that save time while deepening student engagement. Our work helps teachers build inclusive, student-centered classrooms rooted in social justice, creativity, and critical thinking.
We imagine a world that cares and stands up for one another in not only our classrooms, but in our homes, workplaces, around campfires, and beyond.
Our Values
-
Social Responsibility
We believe culturally responsive education requires collaboration, accountability, and community engagement. Through arts education and Ethnic Studies curriculum, we create spaces for dialogue, critical reflection, and social justice learning that connects classrooms to real-world issues.
-
Open Mindedness
We approach teaching and learning as an evolving process. Through interdisciplinary curriculum and culturally sustaining pedagogy, we invite educators and students to challenge dominant narratives, explore new perspectives, and engage in reflective, inquiry-based learning.
-
Unity
Our work is grounded in collective liberation. By centering marginalized histories and community-based knowledge, our curriculum fosters cross-cultural understanding, solidarity, and connection across diverse student communities.
-
Lifelong Learning
We believe learning extends beyond the classroom. Our K–8 lesson plans and arts-based curriculum encourage curiosity, creativity, and personal reflection, supporting both educators and students in developing a lifelong relationship to learning and critical thinking.
Why REALSOUL?
-
REALSOUL is intentionally designed for elementary and middle school students. Our K-8 Ethnic Studies curriculum meets learners where they are, translating complex histories into age-appropriate, arts-integrated lesson plans that build critical thinking, identity awareness, and early civic engagement.
-
Our curriculum connects history to present-day life in California neighborhoods. By centering local stories, community knowledge, and regional movements, students see themselves reflected in what they learn and understand how social justice issues show up in their own communities.
-
REALSOUL integrates Ethnic Studies with math, science, art, social studies, and English language arts. Our interdisciplinary curriculum explores shared themes across communities, helping students understand systems of power, identity, and resistance through multiple lenses.
-
Each module bridges past to present, connecting historical narratives of marginalized communities to students’ lived experiences. Through project-based learning and arts education, students are supported in analyzing real-world issues and imagining solutions grounded in their classrooms and communities.
-
Our lessons are designed to develop critical consciousness, creativity, and agency. Students don’t just learn about social justice. They practice it by identifying challenges, collaborating with peers, and designing solutions rooted in community-based learning.
